For maybe 15 years, when I received an income tax refund, I would purchase a full vocal score from a recent broadway show.... I obtained quite a collection from "Once Upon A Mattress", to "Promises Promises" to "West Side Story" etc.etc.etc. I was (key word WAS) a proficient piano player and local theater groups would call on me to be the rehersal accompanist and/or play the pit piano. Vocal scores had a "Piano Reduction", but it also had orchestra instrument cues throughout the music. I pretty much ignored these cues until "the computer age".
A terrific MIDI player was pre-installed on my first computer and I did a small amount of research and purchased my first MIDI sequencing software. When it came to music to record, needless to say, all of those vocal scores were there... and now I had the ability to pick the score apart in detail and add the additional instruments and CORRECT ERRORS!! It took me a good 3 years before I completely understood the software and how to use it to my best advantage.... but you can tell from the songs I uploaded today (sorry....I went completely crazy!) that I understand the software pretty well. In fact, you already have my very first MIDI file posted.... I was so new at it that I sequenced it with my mouse--I didn't have a keyboard! Give it a listen.... it's the Overture of "Company". (yes--I am the former dhshipley @ worldnet.att.net... but that was LONG ago...)
In conclusion (sheeeesh, I tend to get "wordy"!!) I use MIDI like some people use a paint-by-number. You put the right colors in the right places, you'll have a pretty picture... With MIDI, you put the right notes in the right places with the correct instruments and you'll have a "pretty song".
Please forgive the "wordiness" but I DO like to tell a story! |

My only use for midi is so that i can learn that song so i can play it on the piano, because that is my instrument of choice. Other than that, i like mp3s better. |

I've used MIDI for performance a few times when I could find no other form of accompaniement. Since my parents got rid of my music downloading program, I've had a LOT of trouble finding accompaniement/karaoke files, so I've now turned to MIDI. I also use them for ringtones and sheet music. |

Listening. Putting *any* midi into ringtone form ruins it, cutting quality and detail by at least 50%. _________________ Student. Gamer. Cheater.

I collect MIDIs of Video Game Music.
The music is great, at such a small data size! |
